A Parable in Rhyme...
" Mustaches grow, On Upper Lip sow, Money, Honour, Suspense, It DOES pay to sit on the fence."
Damn... 8( It's a shame that mustache had to go. StanC, potentially one of the front runners in the Mustache Growers League, bladed his upper lip, and, so saying, lost his lip coif.. 8(
So a moment of Silence for Our Trimmed Comrade. To A Wise Warrior of the West... . . . StanC.
As the mythological Samson was shaved, so to, was our Rookie Competitor, KirkJ. Quick to join, fortunately, not as quickly to shave, shave he did. No longer to grace the covers of Sweden's GQ monthly, passing himself off as NHL hockey superstar Daniel Alfredsson, our Fellow Soldier bid his glorious patch of lip hair, "adieu", and cast it to the wind. A moment of silence for our fallen Soldier in Arms...err...Hair... . . . . KirkJ.
Another Fallen soldier, from last week's ending, to honour. RodneyK, a strong competitor from the start, ultimately had to refuse the honour of growing a mustache in face of the far stronger need to make a good impression with some very attractive members of the opposite sex. We could point fingers, make comparisons to sinking ships amidst storms, and what not. But in the final analysis his mustache epitaph would be written:
"It was for the better cause that he gave up his 'stache." Amen. A moment of silence, for our fallen comrade... . . . . RodneyK.
A final flurry of falling soldiers marked the end of last week. Here, on a post by post basis, we give honour to our fallen comrades, stout but ultimately, fallen at their station. "We who are about to Shave, SALUTE you" the Mustache-ioed Ones! :) This particular soldier fought the good fight, and was the De-Facto Commisioner of the Mustache Growers League to boot! However, it dawned on him one night that shaving had more benefits than Not. Without going into details, he was RIGHT. Proven Right. Felt Right. It was the Right thing to do. So saying, A moment of silence for Fallen Soldier and much loved Commisioner of the MGL..... . . . . DeanO
These past few weeks have seen a high incidence of falling soldiers. In total, 5 souls have departed the field of battle.
For the remaining bodies, choosing growth over loss, honour over adversity, the Battle of Facial Follicle Supremacy grinds on. For them, it is not about being JUST a Soldier. Being a mercenary in this war. Far from it, they have graduated from Soldier to WARRIOR. A Soldier sells themself to the highest bidder, looking for the easy out if the incentive is not right. But a WARRIOR is a TRUE competitor. They have transcended the monetary and entered the realm of the Competitory. It is about the Competition, not being the first to go, watching your foes fall by the wayside while keeping a stiff upper lip... growth... So let the women scream. Let the Kids run away in abject terror. Let the dogs growl and bark when you pass. Let the birds attack...your upper..uh...mustache...well..okay, you might have to do something about the birds...
BuT you ARE WARRIORS to the bitter end. The Money is but a side benefit to the hnour you gain as being the Best of the Last (which is your goal)!!! ;)
Now here, we-who-grow, present you, the WARRIORS of Round 2!!!! The total has been whittled to firm warriors of stout heart and great courage.
By the Way: If anybody has Current Mustache Pictures of themselves, to update their own Roster Picture on this Blog, please leave a comment and check back in for instructions from the Blog Admins. Thanks!
A mustache model (models really) to aspire towards... BE STRONG! Laughs can't last forever. And, frankly, $180.00 in the pot buys lots of beer to forget if need be.
9) I kid I kid!
Here is a link, supplied by Bryan Moyo, for inspiration.
Finally Confirmed, but just for fun, not revealed, we have another Fallen Soldier on our hands in the NAMGL (Nelvana Animation Mustache Growing League).
Take a guess at who was the next to fall late last week. Final post up soon... 9)
...was hairy. After a while, we lost much of our hair as our bodies evolved, climates changed, and the advent of personal hygiene took over.
It is with pride that the Nelvana Sports League introduces our Newest sport.
"MUSTACHE GROWING"! Dedicated to reclaiming Mankind's lost "roots". ;)
The Prize. MONEY. The participants, all eighteen of them, must grow and KEEP a decent, prominent mustache on their faces. The WINNER is, in a nutshell, decided by the ONE whose mustache OUTLASTS the others. Like a Survivor meets, uh.... Facial Hair Wars.
Arguably a terrible looking mustache will not last long in society and the social pressure to shave will 'convince' the face in question to remove the offending hair. But there are so many other variables:
Women, Smirks from little children, Girlfriends, Male friends making fun of the facial hair, Wives, Dogs barking at one's face, thinking it is being attacked by some strange enemy, Did I mention that many Women seem to find facial hair uncomfortable to look at and touch? (BE STRONG! RESISTANCE is NOT Futile!!!)
(may the other admins post up the official rules and the participant roster)
Here is the WEEK 1 results with hair growing a plenty. Who will survive. And, more importantly, whose mustache is whose? Feel free to leave comments on whose got the better 'stache, who you think will win, will go out first, etc. Let me or any of the blog admins know if you have other mustache pictures to contribute.
Arguably the best shot of Season 2, to date. Dan "Ansel Adams of Videography" Clermont shoots a VERY dynamic video of a Team Blue Offensive. Adrian "snapshot" Thatcher unleashes a quick pass to Mike "snapup" Collinson. Dan shoots the scene from a low angle, towards Mike's side and really gets the viewer into the scene. It's almost like being on the field! :D
Some quick thinking by Glen "QuickThinker" Wyand (it's 20 past midnight, I am getting sleepy... 9)) halts a potentially lethal kick reception by Dean "I am Lethality" Outschoorn. 8)
A near escape from the rushing defense, by Dean "Surefoot" Outschoorn. James provides some blocking and Dean does some fancy footwork before a lucky tag nabs him for the down. Nice tracking camera by Dan "30FPS with 40 SPF" Clermont. 8)
A punt reception by Team Blue featuring Adrian "Surefoot" Thatcher on the run. A tight turn deke, with some help by Glen "Portable Wall" Wyand gets 'Surefoot' a few lateral yardage only to be taken down by Dean "Laserguided" Outschoorn. :)
Game 6 saw a great weather day greeting the veterans of the NAFL. Sunny times, a little cloud, some refreshing wind, and, above all, temperatures well within tolerable ranges. 8)
The Gmen fielded a roster of 4 to the Blue Team's 6.
Overall the game went Blue's way, for once, as they landed a number of TDs in consistent drives towards the Gmen Endzone. Adrian "flutie" Thatcher and Tom "montana" Morgan traded duties as QBs with some key receivers making great catches - glen "hands of many" wyand and mike "you toss'em I catch'em" collinson.
for the Gmen James "long Bomb" o'connor and Rob "superstar" risek QB'd the team through a number of successful drives while their offense, Dean "superbooster" outschoorn and brent "oaktree" forrest took care of the rest of the deets.
final score was in the favour of Team Blue and the final deal was mostly signed sometime late in the second half as Team Blue scored their final TDs. The Gmen responded strongly but not enough to make a numerical difference in the end.
Here be some evidences of fun, taken through Dan "30Fps" Clermont's experienced eyes. Dan is a Veteran NAFL sanctioned sports staff photographer and videographer. Lookit the lighting and tracking on this kickoff!!!! 8)
A Great reception from the Gmen by Dean 'RocketRouser' Outschoorn! :)
"The Bigger one that Got Away!" Watch as, through all the scuffle, Will "CN Tower" Makra Almost pulls one through for the TD. In the end, even *he* can't handle that many defenders and they get one up on him. A GREAT GREAT EFFORT however! :D
A spirited and NEARLY succesful attempt by Team Blue as John "Montana" Morgan pops a bomb into the Endzone. Glen, under close coverage by Brian, JuuuuusT misses out and Fred, ol' Fumblehands, does a great job of not picking up sooner and snagging the pigskin despite having NO coverage on him. 8) 8O
Isn't it amazing. The power we have over inanimate objects? Yet, sometimes, they get the better of us. 8) Here's one case - Powerful kickoff by Rob "superstar" to Team Blue. Team Blue misses, but so do the Gmen as they attempt to down the ball. In the end, quick wits and quicker hands from Brian "The Bear!" Moyo prevail.
For The Gmen, this was arguably one of their best games. The score was lopsided, the play even more so, and Team Blue struggled despite added firepower to their Game 4 lineup.
First off, I just wanna say how GOOD it was to see Pretty much the entire Team Rosters turn out, including the new Recruits into our NAFL.
I think we had about 13 or 14 people in total. 4 on 4, with at least 2 subs per team.
Tom "Trajectorus Ballisticus" Morgan QB'd Team Blue while the Gmen relied on their dynamic duo of James "Obliterator" O'Connor and Rob "Superstar" Risek to deliver the goods.
The first pair of TDs were pretty much exchanged on what seemed to be even terms as both teams geared up. But then, quite quickly, the Gmen saw their offense and defense turned up a notch. They proceeded to speed away, in terms of TDs, and in terms of Quality of play, in that miserable first half (for the Blue Team).
The second half saw Team Blue get a few TDs back, and some bold gritty plays executed, but it was not nearly enough against the stalwart Gmen.
Needless to say, Team Blue had a good game. But the Gmen had a GREAT game! 8) Things got a little heated in the second half, with some verbal exchanges and raised voices between various proponents of the two factions. Thankfully, no blows, but some raised eyebrows and such. Team Blue saw one of their members walk off in protest, with another almost following. [It is good that the League is putting on a slightly less verbal face on gameplay these days!]
All around, however, good times with some good fun.
Videos and Stills, as per usual.
First up is a kick return by Glen "Supersidle" Wyand! 8)
